Creative Consults

custom creative consultation & mentorship

Through a combined experience as a writer/artist and an educator— I offer custom consultations and mentorship for your creative projects, visions, and identity.

The consultation can focus on a specific project, supporting your creative practice & development, or engaging with larger questions and concerns of being a maker and creative person in the world.

We can shape your consult to your needs: detailed edits, feelings/responses to the work/manuscript, organization, identifying theme/meaning, DIY or small press publishing, materials, long-term goals, etc.

I have worked with folks who want guidance in developing a regular practice, presenting their work online, editing a full-length manuscript, editing individual poems, preparing work to be published, creating content and visions for a therapy practice, and navigating capitalism as an artist.

Due to the unique nature of my consultations, there is no one size fits all for consultation time, cost, or content. I have met with clients once or twice, multiple times over many months, only email, etc.

Consultations can cost anywhere from $200.00 to upwards of $1,000.00+ depending on how long we work together, the scope of the projects, etc. Most basic manuscript / project consultations are in the $200.00 - $500.00 range, while long term clients are in the higher range. I always offer very flexible payment plans on a timeline that works for you.

Once you fill out the consultation form, I will reply within 72 hours. If I think we are a good fit, we can have a 15 minute phone call to talk more and set up a consultation package.

    • The editorial attention Catie provides is invaluable. She reflected back to me the larger themes of my manuscript with profound insight and encouragement. She provided detailed, specific suggestions on a line-by-line basis that could be practically applied. The overall process left me inspired to dig my heels deeper into my work, and gave the gift of precise technical attention that only a patient and generous hand can lend. — S.S.

    • This was my first time working with a consultant on any kind of creative project (to boot, the particular project I brought to work on with Catie was one I'd had trouble starting and giving form to for a long time--it felt like a mess, and impossible). In all of my uncertainties, from project design to my own capacity to make the work, Catie accompanied me in each step with not just thoughtful research, honed craft, and rich experience, but sincerity, humility, and care. I highly recommend working with Catie, whether you are well down the path of your own work or if you need help getting a project up and running—A.R.

    • I highly recommend hiring Catie as an editor. She made sure to clarify my needs and expectations before looking at my manudscript and was upfront about the pricing, which was reasonable. I got the distinct impression that I was driving the ship—she was there to answer the questions I put forth and comment on my concerns, not to be prescriptive or judgmental. The experience could be anything I wanted it to be. Catie's strength as both an instructor and an editor lies in her ability to meet the work exactly where it's at by embracing a sort of expansiveness and eschewing the "corrective." It's less about imposing a vision and more about digging out space around the work so that it can grow, however it wants to. I trust her implicitly because I have witnessed her seemingly boundless compassion and attention to detail. My work has benefited greatly from her keen eye.—N.E.

    • How do I get this project from draft to finished piece? How can I better convey its meaning or message?

    • How can I balance my creative goals with other obligations and responsibilities in my life? How do I develop a practice that is meaningful to me?

    • I want to experiment with this body of work. How can I revise in a playful and experimental way? How can I approach it with new materials or cross-genre modalities?

    • How do I put my practice / hobby / career into language? How do I create a vision for what I want to do and how I want to share it with others?

    • I want to get my work out in the world! How do I do this?

    • What kind of materials would best suit this project? What other artists do you recommend I study?
